Athanasiou Maria
Lecturer and Researcher
Dr. Maria Athanasiou is a Lecturer at Newcastle University and a Researcher at Durham University. Her award-winning work focuses on pedagogical methodologies and assessment across the educational board, popular music performance and interpretation as well as activism, social entrepreneurship and digital business in the creative industries and beyond.She holds a Ph.D. by research in Musicology, a Master's degree in Art, Law and Economy and a BA (Hons) in Applied Music Studies. She has worked at the Glasshouse International Centre for Music, the School of Arts and Cultures, the School of English Literature, Language and Linguistics and the Careers Service at Newcastle University, the Faculty of Business and Law at Northumbria University as well as the Department of Modern Greek Language, Literature and Culture at the University of Geneva. She has been recently among the Newcastle University Alumni Achievement Awards (2021), the Music and Drama Education Awards (finalist, 2023) and the SHE Inspires Awards (finalist, 2023 and 2024). She is a member of the British Academy Early Career Researcher Network and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

I am an Education Curator and Art Psychotherapist at ΕΜΣΤ | The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens. I studied Psychology and Fine Arts (Brandeis University, Waltham, MA, USA) and I am Phi Betta Kappa, received an MA in the History of Art (Courtauld Institute of Art, London, UK), a Post Graduate Diploma on Contemporary Art (Sotheby’s Institute of Art, London), and an MA on Art Psychotherapy (Art and Psychotherapy Center, Athens). I am accredited by the European Association for Psychotherapists (EAP). From 2020 to 2022, I served as Vice-President of the Board of the Association of Greek Expressive Therapists & Jungian Coaching. As an Education Curator, I deliver educational programs for primary school children. Additionally, I design and implement inclusive programs that focus on the development and participation of the public both inside and outside the Museum premises, for participants to engage with art in creative and entertaining ways, developing their imagination and critical thinking. In 2017, I inaugurated the group art psychotherapy program "Exploring the Museum's Images - Exploring My Image" (http://www.emst.gr/en/category/art-psychotherapy) as a means to assist people to deal with life’s hardships, traumas and find a platform to process difficult emotions. I have broad teaching and mentoring experience and supervise art psychotherapists. My research work focuses on museum learning, art psychotherapy, health and well-being, inclusivity and on the various ways that culture can contribute to the efficiency of education and health systems. Dr Marianna Kapsetaki is a neurosurgery resident, neuroscientist, lecturer, and classical pianist. She earned her Piano Soloist Diploma (1st Hons, Distinction, and 1st Prize) at 17, followed by a Medical Degree (1st Hons) from the University of Crete, an MSc (Distinction) in Performing Arts Medicine from University College London, and a PhD in Neuroscience (no corrections) from Imperial College London. She later became a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UCL, undertook a Clinical Observership in Functional Neurosurgery at St George’s Hospital, London, and is nearing completion of an MSc in Clinical and Experimental Neurosurgery at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. She has received 120+ awards and scholarships, including making history as the first and only Greek doctor to be named in Forbes' "30 Under 30" list (Europe – Science & Healthcare), 1st prize in 12 international and national piano competitions, the 2025 Study UK Alumni Award in Science & Sustainability (British Council), UNESCO Medal, the British Association of Performing Arts Medicine Award for Best MSc Dissertation, the Dean’s Internship Award (Imperial College London), Onassis Foundation PhD Scholarship, and a scholarship from the Athens Megaron Music Friends Society and ‘World in Harmony’ Association conferred by HRH Princess Irene at the Gina Bachauer Awards. Mavriopoulou Roula

Roula Mavriopoulou, a distinguished dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor, graduated in 1994 from the Higher Professional School for Dance Teachers of Despina Grigoriadou (Vaganova method), obtaining her diploma from the Greek Ministry of Culture. She has enriched her expertise by participating in international seminars in classical ballet, contemporary dance, choreography, repertoire, and character dance at the prestigious Varna International Ballet Academy.From 1995 to 2000, she is an esteemed dance educator, teaching music and movement education at the Arsakeio School in Psychiko and choreographing for the ET1 television channel. She has also been invited as an assistant choreographer for the contemporary dance company of Haris Mandafounis, further solidifying her influence in the field. As a performer, she has collaborated with the Greek National Opera, the Seresta Dance Company of Christina Beskou, and the “Proskairi Synthesi” ensemble of Dorina. Kalethrianou. Her artistic journey reflects a deep commitment to the evolution of dance.In 2002, she established her own dance school, DANCE STUDIO Roula Mavriopoulou, which has become a center for artistic innovation and high-level dance training. She has produced 11 original dance performances, distinguished for their fusion of dance with other art forms such as opera, poetry, orchestral music, and acting, showcasing her interdisciplinary artistic vision.For her, dance is not merely a form of movement but a profound artistic discipline that, through training and dedicated instruction, cultivates physical excellence, artistic sensitivity, and intellectual depth. Her unique teaching approach has led to 40 of her students being accepted into prestigious dance academies in Greece and internationally, many of them with scholarships. Anthe Mitrakos is an award-winning media entrepreneur with a rich background in journalism, and international business in the United States, Greece, and Switzerland. A Greek-American and proud diaspora community member, she realized her vision to connect Greece with the U.S. through Portes Magazine - the first-of-its-kind print and digital publication celebrating Hellenic culture - in her early 20s. Anthe is passionate about documenting and sharing the finest things that make Greece a muse to the world. As a journalist and media consultant, her work has been featured in Crain’s Chicago Business Magazine, FOX News Chicago, CBS Network News, Business Partners Magazine, The Chicago Sun-Times, The National Herald and The Washington Monthly, among other media outlets. She has contributed communications and marketing expertise to international clients, however, her biggest achievement is serving as editor of Portes Magazine, where she has been volunteering her time and effort for over a decade at this non-profit publication. Anthe enjoys travel, photography, storytelling and painting. She was named "Emerging Leader" by the Alpha Omega Council for her "exceptional achievements in the Hellenic community" in 2024. She has made guest appearances on national Greek television to present Portes and share her story as a diaspora Greek, and was invited to speak about Portes on a special panel with Greek PM Mitsotakis in 2021, among other distinctions. I was born and raised in Athens but my family’s hail from the Sacred Town of Messolonghi. I studied Social theology at the National Kapodistrian University of Athens and acting at the the esteemed Higher Drama School of Athens ‘Iakovos Kambanellis’. Later, I took directing courses at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and i hold an MA at Theatrical Studies, with direction in Acting and Directing from the Open University of Cyprus. I have been working as an actress since 2007 in various shows in theatre and television and I have participated in several films in Greece and U.K. Some of them are ‘Maestro’ Netflix, Mega, ‘The best years of our lives’ (‘Τα καλύτερά μας χρόνια’) EPT1, ‘On sourit pour la photo’, ‘#3099’ that was awarded at Beijing Film Festival 2022, ‘Stay’, ‘Mangas’ which was screened at BFI film Festival 2018, Blood Rites at Vault Festival 2020 to name a few of the recent ones. As a director, i have directed ‘Shopping and Fuck***’ at Vafeio theatre and I was the assistant director at ‘Pulp Fiction’ in Alkistis theatre both of them in Athens. While in London I directed ‘The maids, a game for two’ 2017 at White Bear Theatre , ‘Pitsa’ 2018 again at White bear Theatre and the kid’s show ‘The swallow that was waiting for Christmas’ 2018 at Hellenic Center. At Golden Goose Theatre i directed and performed the shows ‘With Power from Kifisia’ (Με Δύναμη από την Κηφισιά) 2022, ‘In Kambanellis’ Neighborhoods’ (Στις Γειτονιές του Καμπανέλλη) 2022 and ‘Who discovered America?’ (Ποιος Ανακάλυψε την Αμερική;)2023. I also presented ‘Manfred Echoes’ at King’s College London and Trinity College Cambridge. My recent work, ‘For Three Refrigerators and a Washing Machine’, was presented at the Greenwood Theatre in 2024. Part of my artistic work has been exhibited at the gallery Tate Modern in London. Moreover I was appointed as the Representative of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture in UK for two years. I am the Founder and Artistic Director of Culture In Action, Founding Member of the art group Fabrica Athens and, as a lifelong promoter of women’s rights, a Member of the European Union Women Commission in Greece in the branch of Culture. I am very active socially and I am involved with the Greek Community in the UK. I am an experienced teacher at Greek Parish schools supporting the effort of conveying the love and knowledge for the Greek language and culture to the younger generations of the Greek diaspora. I am also very close to the Greek Orthodox Church in the UK and contributes to my local parish of “St. Nicholas Shepherd’s Bush” from the position of the Secretary of the Church Committee.

Effie Panagopoulou is a writer and creator of books, plays, songs, and stories for all ages, blending education, culture, and social impact in her work. Her acclaimed series The Children Talk to Us, supported by the Ministry of Culture, addresses themes of inclusion, diversity, and well-being. Within this cycle, the bilingual books Theodore and the Adventure of Healthy Eating, Christos’ Sweet Sugar-Free Story, and Who Is Upsetting Christina? received the Golden Distinction at the Wellness Awards for their social and pedagogical value. Continuing this path, her new project The Women Talk to Us highlights resilience, empowerment, and the silent struggles of women.Her award-winning series The Mythical Melodies of the Rivers, also supported by the Ministry of Culture and honoured at the Tourism Awards in 2022 and 2024, links Greek mythology with nature. The book Alpheus’ Journey was featured on ERT TV & ERT World and translated into Italian for schools. In theatre, her play This Is How It All Started premiered in Tripoli in 2021, followed by This Is How It Continues in 2023. In 2022, she wrote the libretto for the opera Prometheus for the Greece-China Year of Culture, with her song broadcast on Nanjing TVEffie has collaborated with composer George Voukanos on many works and contributed to the collector’s edition of Antonis Samarakis’ The Little Journey Her librettos Thesmophorian Dance: An Ode to the Earth and Zalongo: Women’s Dance, Silence Symphony explore identity and historical memory, performed by the ERT Contemporary Music Orchestra. I am a conceptual artist based in Athens. I studied Graphic Design, Advertising and visual Communication and began my creative journey in 2002, following a successful career as a creative director in prominent advertising and publishing companies in Greece. This experience honed my ability to develop impactful concepts and visuals, skills that have been instrumental in shaping my artistic expression.As a self-taught artist, my work is deeply influenced by the aesthetics of the 1980s, blending elements of pop culture with contemporary art. I create original pieces across various mediums, including two-dimensional works like illustrations, paintings, and collages, as well as three-dimensional sculptures and installations. My art often reflects themes of resilience, cultural identity, and the enduring spirit of Greece.Since 2002, I have participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Greece and internationally. My exhibitions have been held in cities such as Athens, New York, Los Angeles and Monaco.One of my most significant projects is All You Need is Greece, a comprehensive cultural initiative that includes a conceptual art book, a series of artworks, and 2 short films. This project, which I launched independently, aims to promote Hellenism and the love for Greece worldwide. It has been endorsed by the Greek National Tourism Organization (EOT) and is held under its auspices.Through my art, I strive to create emotional connections that inspire and uplift, showcasing the beauty, spirit, and strength of Greece even in turbulent times.One of my greatest strengths as an artist is the ability to collaborate meaningfully with both global and local brands. Over the years, I’ve partnered with international brand names creatively bridging fine art with commercial storytelling. I’ve also contributed to urban art initiatives, including the Cow Parade street art exhibition in Athens. Most recently, I designed a Greek heritage merchandise collection in collaboration with a major American sports team—celebrating culture through contemporary design. I’ve also published several conceptual art books throughout the years, using this medium to extend the emotional and philosophical dimensions of my work. Additionally, I had the honor of contributing my artwork to the Special Olympics in Athens, an experience that reaffirmed my belief in art’s power to unify, uplift, and celebrate human potential.

Markella Skourti is a composer, creator of educational music programs, piano teacher, and founder of the nonprofit organization "The Way of Music." I am Erini Tornesaki (aka Erini), a New York based Greek vocalist, educator, and cultural advocate from Crete, blending the traditional music of my Asia Minor roots with jazz, classical, and pop genres. I performed as the lead vocalist with Cirque du Soleil’s Kurios in over 1,000 shows across North America. A Berklee College of Music graduate and current Assistant Professor, I’ve performed internationally—from Carnegie Hall to WOMEX 2023—and sung on Grammy-nominated albums. My debut album Fos (Ropeadope / Universal Greece) fuses Greek heritage with global influences. As co-founder and Artistic Director of Avlés—an all-female-led arts organization—I foster intercultural dialogue and heritage education. I’m a GRAMMY® Voting Member, a mentor for GRAMMY U, Ambassador for Music from Greece, and actively support Greek artists worldwide through mentoring and representation at global music conferences.
Triantafyllis Gabriella

Gabriella Triantafyllis is the Chief Artistic Programming & Production Officer of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC). Since its opening to the public in 2016, Gabriella has been overseeing the design and delivery of music events, performances, exhibitions, screenings, educational programs, and athletic events of varying sizes and for a variety of indoor and outdoor locations. Gabriella holds a B.A. Hons in Theater Studies (DUX) from the University of Athens and an M.A. Distinction in Film and TV Production from the University of Bristol/ UK. She is also trained in acting at the Contemporary Theatre of Athens and in black and white photography with Plato Rivellis. From 2008 to 2016 she was the General Manager and Performance Programmer at BIOS, Athens' centre for today's arts and cross media, and has also been managing Romantso, the first Greek creative industries incubator. She has worked extensively in the theater, in short films and in TV distribution and is one of the founding members of the music theater company The Beggars' Operas.In 2020 she was granted the Professional Achievement Award at the Study UK Alumni Awards organized by the British Council in partnership with the British Embassy in Athens.From 2016 to 2024 Gabriella was a member of the caravan showcase curatorial team (part of Brighton Festival, UK). From 2022 to 2023 she was a member of the Advisory Committee for Theatre Grants of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, whilst currently (2024) she is holding the position of the Vice-President in the Committee.

An architect and Professor at The Bartlett School of Architecture (BSA), UCL, I hold a PhD (1997)/MSc (1986) from the BSA and Diploma from The National Technical University of Athens (1985). I am co-director of the History/Theory PhD programme (BSA), and have taught studios/seminars (BSA), University of Michigan (UoM) (Assoc. Professor 2005-11), Cardiff University (1997-2004) and University of Greenwich (1992-97). I have developed transdisciplinary internationally recognised innovative work, spanning architecture and urbanism, history/theory, political science and cultural studies. I have produced funded research (NSF-USA, Leverhulme Trust, The Onassis Foundation). My work focuses on spatial morphology and the histories of building/cities that have influenced their development alongside the social patterns of human activity. I am the author of two monographs, two edited volumes and over 60 research publications. I was the editor of The Journal of Space Syntax (2011-15) and associate editor of Architecture Research Quarterly (2004). I have served as external examiner of 20 PhD theses internationally; scientific reviewer of research/scholarship applications for The Swiss National Science Foundation (2024), The Onassis Foundation (2023), The London Arts and Humanities Partnership (2020-24), The Independent Social Research Foundation (2024); as scientific advisor for CiTUA, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon, and external evaluator of schools of architecture/courses in UK and internationally. Through the sub-brand Bunny Mojito, she reimagined traditional Greek Easter candles as collectible design objects, which were sold at the Benaki and Cycladic Museum shops.Marina then expanded into education, co-founding shift education, where she created and taught architecture, design, and game design programs for children and teens, using a playful, hands-on learning approach. She also designed the visual identity and a cutting-edge robotics lab for blast at the Moraitis School, fostering experiential STEAM learning.Today, Marina works as a Senior Product Designer at the LEGO® Group in Denmark. Her petition gathered over 45,000 signatures, and she worked closely with policymakers, including prime ministers, to drive systemic change. Chanel also led efforts to criminalize stealthing in multiple Australian states.Her organisation, Teach Us Consent, is now a government funded organization, recently being given a $3.5 million grant to create consent education resources for young people on social media. Dr Angela Evangelinou-Yiannakis is a graduate of The University of Western Australia; BA (1979), GradDipEd (1980), MEd (Hons) (2002), EdD (2009). She was awarded the Teacher’s Higher Certificate from the Department of Education WA in 1984 and has three certificates for competency in Modern Greek (TAFEWA; The Aristotle University, Greece; and the Centre for the Greek Language, Greece). A secondary school teacher of English and Languages (Greek and French), Angela has been in the profession for 46 years, teaching in all tiers; primary, secondary, and tertiary, the latter of which includes initial teacher education at UWA and The University of Notre Dame Australia, and teaching Modern Greek for adults at both institutions. Angela began her teaching career in 1980 and has been a teacher and school leader in the independent sector since 1994, including being the Director of Greek Studies, Senior School Coordinator, Vice Principal, and Acting Principal of St Andrew’s Grammar during her 17 years at the school. In 2012, Angela became the Foundation Principal of Immaculate Heart College, establishing the primary school and securing the secondary school before leaving in 2016. Modern Greek was introduced by Angela in the foundation year of the school and is still taught today, along with Latin. From 2016 to the present day, Angela has been working for the Teach for Australia (TFA) program through the university partner (Deakin University and now Australian Catholic University). She has been the ACU-TFA Regional Lead for WA since 2018. Concurrently, at the Graduate School of Education, UWA, Angela is a Unit Coordinator and Lecturer of Master of Teaching and Master of Education units, including Languages Education Curriculum I and II, which have been offered annually since 2020. Angela is also an Honorary Research Fellow. In this capacity, she has had several refereed publications, including a book based on her doctoral research. Angela serves on several committees, including being the Director of the Centre for the Greek Language (CGL) in WA since 2004; Chairperson of the West Australian Modern Greek Language Teachers’ Association Inc. (WAMGLTA) since 2016; Member and Events Committee Chairperson of the UWA Council of Convocation since 2017; and Vice President of the Modern Language Teachers Association of WA Inc. (MLTAWA) since 2023. Her volunteer work also involves judging local and interstate literary competitions in both English and Modern Greek, sitting on two school boards, and helping to organise and participate in academic conferences. Stephanie (Styliani) Hatzifilalithis is the Research Lead for Healthy Cities in the Women's Age Lab at Women's College Hospital and a Sessional Lecturer at McMaster University. Stephanie was born in Canada but lived in Greece for most of her life and returned back to Toronto, Canada to pursue graduate school where she now resides. Stephanie completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging, earned her PhD in Social Gerontology at McMaster University, holds an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience from University College London, UK as well as a BSc (Honours) in Psychology from the International Faculty of the University of Sheffield. Her passion and research broadly examines inequality experienced by older people, especially older women, climate change, intergenerational relationships, housing policy and practice, as well as community development and knowledge mobilization. My research focuses on vision impairment (VI) in children and youth during life transitions, and created "Infinite World of Vision"—the first audiobook written and narrated by VI youth, now informing support organisations nationwide, while my PhD advanced understanding of VI/autism repetitive behaviours. I worked for University of Bath, Birmingham, University College London, East London, and Oxford. Teaching approaches include disability seminars in art galleries and using ballet performances to demonstrate qualitative research methods—earning a University of Bath Recognition of Excellence nomination. My professional journey began in 2002 as headmistress at Athens' Special Pre-Primary School for the Blind (and other settings) and a psychologist at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Irene Theodoropoulou is a professor of linguistics in the Department of English Literature and Linguistics at Qatar University since 2010. She holds a PhD in Sociolinguistics from King’s College London. Her current research interests include modern Greek and Arabic sociolinguistics, intercultural communication, and discourse analysis. Her numerous academic publications include articles in Q1 journals, including Humanities and Social Sciences Communications, Journal of Arabian Studies, Metaphor and the Social World, the Journal of Multilingual Discourses, and Language Policy. She is also the author of Sociolinguistics of Speech Style and Social Class in Contemporary Athens (Benjamins, 2014) and the co-editor (with Johanna Tovar) of the Research Companion to Language and Country Branding (Routledge, 2021). She is the recipient of numerous grants from Qatar National Research Fund, Qatar Research Development and Innovation Council, and Qatar University. She has also received multiple international awards for her academic performance, including the IKY Award for the highest performance in the Department of Philology at the University of Athens in 2001, 2002, and 2003, the 2002 Herder Scholarship from the Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS in Hamburg, Germany, and the Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences Research Award in 2015 and 2024, as well as the Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences Teaching Excellence Award in 2013. She graduated from Medical School of Ioannina and subsequently moved to London, UK where she was trained in cardiology and especially multimodality imaging and valvular heart disease. She was the founding editor in chief for Journal of American College of Cardiology-Case Reports and the first non-American to assume this position. She founded JACC Case Reports Peer Review Mentoring Program and other initiatives such as DaVinci corner. She mentored and supported hundreds of young colleagues to understand publishing and the peer review process. Among the most successful initiatives was the publication of “first across the world” clinical cases during the COVID pandemic. These were published on media channels such as Reuters, CNN, Euronews and more. Currently she is serving as Deputy Editor for European Heart Journal for Cardiovascular Imaging and Advisory Board for Nature Reviews Cardiology. In terms of diversity and equity, Dr Grapsa has been a great advocate for Women in Cardiology. She is chairing Gender and Equity group within the European Society of Cardiology Cardiovascular Imaging. With regards to research, she discovered thar right myocardial mass regression is immediately related to adverse outcomes in pulmonary hypertensive patients. She obtained her PhD on the assessment of right heart remodeling with 3-dimensional echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance in pulmonary arterial hypertension. She has participated in major clinical trials and registries. She has written multiple chapters for books while she has authored/co-authored 168 peer reviewed manuscripts. I am an experimental physicist with primary research activities in the fields of soft matter, biophysics, colloidal sciences and materials science. After I earned a BSc in physics from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2014), I moved to the Netherlands where I earned an MSc from the Institute of Physics at the University of Amsterdam (2016) and a PhD from the Leiden Institute of Physics (2021). After my PhD, I moved to Switzerland to perform post-doctoral research at the Department of Materials at ETH Zurich (2021-2024). In 2024, I was awarded a research grant by the Swiss National Science Foundation to move to the United States. I currently work in Biophysics at the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Harvard University. I am an Infectious Diseases Immunologist and Associate Professor at the Department of Paediatrics, University of Oxford. I completed my undergraduate studies in Biology at the University of Patras in Greece. I was then awarded a two-year research fellowship by the Hellenic Institute of Research and Technology and earned an MRes in Biotechnology from the same University. In 2015, I moved to the UK and pursued a PhD in Immunology at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and completed my post-doctoral training at the University of Oxford. My research centers on respiratory diseases caused by bacteria and viruses. In my team, we study how our body responds to such infections and how we spread them to others. I lead clinical trials and controlled human infection studies to develop new and more effective vaccines, therapeutic, and preventative treatments. I recently developed a controlled human co-infection model for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and pneumococcus. These two pathogens cause millions of deaths in young children and older people globally. My work aims to reduce the disease burden in those affected the most: infants, young children, and older adults. I have secured funding from national and international funding bodies, and my work has been published in high-impact journals, such as Nature Immunology and Cell Host and Microbe. In 2022, I was awarded the prestigious Robert Austrian Research Award in Vaccinology by the International Society of Pneumococcus and Pneumococcal Diseases, and recently the University of Oxford nominated me for the Blavatnik Award in the category of life Science. I also actively mentor young female scientists and those from underprivileged backgrounds, and am an advocate for girls and women in STEM.

With a PhD from The Cyprus Institute of Neurology & Genetics, my pioneering work has received international acclaim, including rare pediatric and orphan drug designations by the FDA for an RNAi-driven therapy targeting CMT1A.I have authored numerous high-impact publications that highlight advancements in translational medicine. My dedication has been recognized with prestigious awards such as the PK Thomas international award for the best research on peripheral neuropathies, Panos Ioannou Junior Scientist Award, the European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy Travel Grant for top abstracts, International Brain Research Organization travel award, and the Best PhD Thesis Award from the Cyprus Biological Society. Theofanopoulou Constantina

Dr. Constantina Theofanopoulou is the Herbert and Nell Singer Research Assistant Professor at Rockefeller University, Research Associate at Emory University and the US Department of Veteran Affairs, and Visiting Scholar at New York University. Her research aims to understand the neural circuits of complex sensory-motor behaviors that serve social communication, specifically speech and dance, and to uncover effective drug and arts-based interventions for addressing sensory-motor deficits commonly seen in brain disorders, such as Parkinson’s Disease. For her Ph.D. (Universal Ph.D. title: University of Barcelona, Duke University, and Rockefeller University), she worked on the social reward mechanisms of vocal learning, studying the role of oxytocin in vocal learning in songbirds and in human evolution of sociality. These projects led her to realize that the evolution of the oxytocin/vasotocin gene family was largely misunderstood, an issue she resolved during her Post Doc at Rockefeller University using computational genomic tools. This work laid the foundations for her current clinical projects on testing the therapeutic role of oxytocin in speech and overall motor deficits. Her scientific findings have garnered worldwide media attention (e.g., New York Times). She has received over 20 scientific awards, including her selection as a Next Generation Leader by the Allen Institute, and her inclusion in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2021. Dr. Theofanopoulou is also actively involved in supporting women and underrepresented minorities in science. Among her roles, she has served as a Council member of the Rockefeller Inclusive Science Initiative, and a Board member of the International Brain Research Organization’s Early Career Committee. Additionally, Constantina is an awarded flamenco dancer, having performed in numerous shows worldwide, including, in 2024, for the United Nations General Assembly’s symposium on arts and sciences.

I was born in Thessaloniki Greece and studied Medicine and Theology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Afterwards, I initiated my collaboration with AUTH in 1982 as scientific collaborator and a year later received my specialty as a Neuropsychiatrist and my PhD. I finished also my theology studies in 1985. I have been a Professor of Neurology since 2010, the Head of the 1st University Department of Neurology (2017-2020) and now Emeritus Professor. I founded the Greek Alzheimer Association in 1995 and the Greek Federation of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2007, in which I am up to today the Chair, while also being the scientific director of four Public Dementia Units (founded by me in 2007, 2009, 2022 in Thessaloniki and 2023 in Katerini) for patients with neurodegenerative diseases and their caregivers. Since September 2022 I am the director of the first public Nursing home for patients with end stages of dementia “Panagia Glykofilousa” in Thessaloniki. Since 2018 I am the Coordinator of the Laboratory of Neurodegenerative diseases (LND) which is working under the umbrella of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and located at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (CIRI—AUTh). Biochemical research on Neurodegenerative diseases are running with postdoc students who are working in this laboratory and are funded, this period, from the Horizon program we have, 2D-biopad. The last seven years I was invited to join as a member of the Greek National Observatory for Dementia, Hellenic Neurological Society, Alzheimer Europe, Alzheimer’s Disease International and European Alzheimer's Disease Consortium. I have organized a Postgraduate course about “Neurosciences and Neurodegenerative diseases”. During the last three years more than 100 Health Care Professionals finished this course. Finally, I am one of the three or seven advisory members for 36 doctoral theses-completed and 40 postgraduate theses. I am mother of four children and grandmother of ten grandchildren.

She currently works as the Group Manager of ESG (Environmental Social Governance), in addition to her position in the Compliance Department as one of the two Regional Compliance Officers of the Group. She belongs to the 2nd generation of ownership, starting her career in 2008, following in the footsteps of her father. Her experience expands from the field of crew manning, providing Filipino seafarers to Greek shipping companies with “Bright Maritime Corp.”, to the merchant shipping sector, owning bulk carrier vessels, with “Bright Navigation Inc.” and “Sea Gate Navigation Ltd.”. The last 15 years her family has been active also into the Ro-Ro/Passenger liner sector with “Golden Star Ferries” where she recently took on the role of the CEO. Her dynamic personality and passion for entrepreneurship push her daily to pursue not only the development of her existing family businesses but also the creation of new ventures in and out of shipping. As a result, for the last couple of years the object of her business interest is the hotel industry. She attends various courses and programs such as the Leadership course at Harvard Business school, the Masterclass in ESG at HELMEPA Academy and she participates in maritime forums following all the new developments. My last role was Chief Financial Officer for a global company based in Hong Kong. I was part of the Asia Executive Board, responsible for 28 countries, 9 offices, and 2,000 staff.From the outside, I had everything—career, home, financial security. But inside, something was missing. I had lost both my parents young and spent years in survival mode, chasing success but feeling disconnected. One day I thought: If I don’t stop now, I’ll never figure out what truly matters to me.At 39, I left it all behind and returned to Greece to reconnect with my roots and rediscover who I was. I wasn't athletic at all—not as a child, and not as an adult. But something drew me to movement. I trained for my first marathon—the Athens Marathon—in just four months.From there, I started running local races, then went to Flagstaff, Arizona to train with elite athlete Rob Krar. I ran longer distances and started achieving podium finishes. What was supposed to be a 3-month training trip turned into 4 years in the U.S.—and a new way of living.At 42, I ran 1,300 km across Arizona in 17 days and set a world record for women.When COVID hit, I returned to my beloved Crete. This role provided me with a comprehensive understanding of all Olympic sports and allowed me to collaborate closely with International Federations. It offered me invaluable insights into event management, sports operations, and the intricacies of sports politics.In 2006, I took on the challenge of reviving the Athens Authentic Marathon as Event Services & Registrations Director. Overseeing a range of projects and initiatives, I worked with my team to elevate the event across multiple dimensions. Acting as the primary liaison for external partners and stakeholders, I contributed to transforming the Athens Marathon into a globally recognized event. In 2022, I joined the Hellenic Basketball Federation by taking charge of the 3x3 project. My primary role was to organize a series of 3x3 events across various levels, with the goal of increasing awareness and establishing a robust foundation for the development of our National Teams. In January 2024, I was entrusted with the role of Event Director for the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024. My origins are from ancient Olympia, where the spirit of the Olympic Games still illuminates my soul and was a driving force behind my involvement in sports. I started running at the age of 35, which did not prevent my development in my subsequent distinguished running career. Through hard training, dedication and an internal passion for running, I managed to climb the level of a being a pioneering athlete, both in Greece and abroad. In all these years that I have been training, the magic recipe is that I dared to dream the impossible, I worked silently in the deafening noise all around us, and I believed in myself, despite the many difficulties along the way. I am a 22 year old female equestrian. I participate in showjumping competitions since I was 12 years old. I started on my own with my sister, since my family had nothing to do with horses in the past, so it was a bit challenging to fit in and understand how everything works, as in the equestrian industry most talented riders come from horse families. I made my way up after many challenges. I had injuries and accidents, many wrong horses that did not fit for me, many trainers that did not respect me and my family and only wanted to make money out of our cooperation, and a lot more… Overcoming everything, I managed to be in the national team, participate in Balkan and European championships, go in many different countries for international shows, find amazing horses to team up with and make my family, friends and country proud! As this is still my passion, I also study in the mean time, something that makes my life even more challenging. I am a Business management student and I also find free time for my other passion, the gym. I strongly believe that women have to be the most powerful versions of themselves physically and mentally. Between Highschool and university, I decided to take a gap year, and that’s when I took the 3 horses I had at the time and went in the Netherlands to work in a stable , do more difficult shows and gain experience. This was the year I realised how much I love what I do and that I want to make it also a profession and teach and inspire more girls like me to get into this sport.

In the national elections of 2023, I was the youngest candidate for parliament nationwide, and I also participated in the European Parliament elections of 2024. I have worked as an in-house lawyer at the consulting firm SMR Consultants, where I mainly dealt with public contracts, tenders, and legal support for first and second-degree local government entities. Additionally, I completed my internship at EYDAP, focusing primarily on labor and public law. While studying, I have worked in various jobs such as promotions, service, teaching theoretical subjects, and have also served as a secretary in a pharmacy and a dance school. I am fluent in English and French. I am a certified Data Protection Officer (DPO) by the Balkan Center for Business Development. I have been a keynote speaker at the annual conference of the Union of Daily Newspapers Publishers of Athens (ΕΣΗΕΑ) on the topic "Women's Participation in Politics: Prejudices and Sexism" and at the EU Regions Week, representing the newly elected officials of the Attica Region. I am a doctoral researcher in Molecular and Cellular Medicine at the University of Oxford. I investigate how cells change with age, and explore the mechanisms by which this occurs, to identify strategies to delay the onset of age-related diseases. Over the years, I have been committed to advancing our understanding of human ageing, aiming to provide people with a better quality of life throughout their lives. My research not only expands scientific knowledge but has real-world implications for improving global health and fostering healthy ageing. I am a member of the First UK Space Innovation Lab, and part of the pioneering team that has sent samples from the NASA headquarters to the International Space Station, to study the effects of microgravity on human ageing and use it as a platform to study ageing on Earth better. I am the third recipient of the Mellon Longevity Graduate Scholarship, and a scholar of the Alexander S. Onassis Foundation. I hold a First-Class Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Genetics and a Master of Research degree in Ageing and Health awarded with Distinction. I graduated among the top 2.5% of students at Newcastle University, ranking first in my cohort. I have authored publications in scientific and science communication journals and have been invited to present my research at national and international scientific conferences (e.g., OARSI World Congress, Seoul, Korea, 2025). Throughout my academic career, I have received distinctions including the Laura Bassi Scholarship for junior academics, the NCL+ award, the Good Citizen Award and multiple Career Development funds in recognition of my contributions in mentoring, outreach and education. As a first-generation woman in science, I am deeply committed to fostering accessibility and inclusion in science and education. I am Dimitra Pantelaki, a military medical doctor passionate about ophthalmology. Currently, I am working at the 401 General Military Hospital in Greece as part of my practical rotation, acquiring hands-on skills across various medical disciplines. My medical journey began at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where I built a solid scientific foundation, further enriched by international experiences. Throughout my studies I completed a semester at Charles University Medical School in the Czech Republic and a clinical exchange at Mostar University Hospital in Bosnia and Herzegovina, gaining valuable exposure to diverse healthcare systems.During my final semester, I was an Erasmus trainee at the ophthalmology department of the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf, one of northern Germany's largest hospitals. This experience deepened my interest in pediatric eye care and inspired me to found KORI in 2023. The name “KORI” has dual meaning in Greek: “pupil of the eye” and “daughter,” symbolizing our focus on pediatric vision care. KORI aims to revolutionize pediatric eye exams using eye-tracking algorithms and virtual reality. This innovative system replaces outdated, ruler-based methods, offering a more objective, efficient, and child-friendly approach. Our technology also enables early detection of conditions, like strabismus, as well as remote monitoring, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and patient care.Before founding KORI, I co-developed "FeelMe," a platform that supports children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and their families. FeelMe enhances social and emotional interactions, helping children with ASD form stronger relationships. This project won the 2nd prize at the IEEE R8 Entrepreneurship Week 2021, marking a milestone in my journey to combine healthcare with technology. Since then, I have dedicated myself to merging my medical knowledge with innovation in order to create a lasting positive impact on people's lives.

As a Greek National, I moved away from home to the UK when I was 18 to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Warwick. Covid-19 hit the world halfway through my degree and the international work I was aspiring to do was no longer possible. This therefore forced me to reconsider my options.
