Afroditi is the Creative Director of eponymous design studio AfroditiKrassa and the designer behind some of London’s most iconic hospitality projects of the past decade; from hugely popular chain itsu, to dining phenomenon Dishoom and most recently, Heston Blumenthal’s ‘The Perfectionists’ Café’.

Afroditi Krassa has been described as “a monumental talent” by Hospitality Interiors, “a rising star in hospitality design” by Metropolis Magazine, and, “most prominent designer of her generation” by Coolhunting. In 2010, she was awarded Designer of the Year by Elle Deco.

Anagnostopoulos Theo

Science Communicator - Social Enterpreneur

Theo is a science communicator, a social entrepreneur and a public speaker. He is the Founder and General Manager of SciCo, an international organisation aiming to make science and technology simple and understandable to the public and to various stakeholder groups. He is also the Co-Founder of the "Athens", "Thessaloniki" and "Mediterranean Science Festivals", the "School lab" international teaching platform, "TEDMED live Athens" and "Green Project".
Theo holds a PhD in Medical Genetics from Kings College London and his Post-Doctoral Research work was in hereditary cancer. In 2011 he was nominated by UNESCO Greece for the Kalinga Science Popularisator Prize and in 2012 he trained with Al Gore to become one of Climate Reality Project Ambassadors.
He has been the TEDxAthens and the TEDxLimassol host presenter from 2011 to 2015.
Since 2013 he is the President of the Onassis Foundation Scholar’s Association.
In February 2016 and based on his work for SciCo, he was awarded a scholarship by Stanford University and attended the Executive Program in Social Entrepreneurship.

A desire to create a space where women feel like they are in their own boudoir has been on Elena Antoniades' mind since she launched her own successful womenswear label. The concept was to design, create and sell beautifully made products designed to last.

Apostolakis Apostolos

Apostolos is a serial entrepreneur turned investor in the internet/technology sector. He cofounded along with 2 friends e-shop.gr the first computer e-tailer in Greece and then was involved in Taxibeat.com where Apostolos served on the board until the sale of company to Daimler in 2017. Apostolos was also a cofounder at
e-food.gr, that exited to Delivery Hero group in 2015 and at doctoranytime.gr an online service helping patients look for a doctor. As an angel investor Apostolos has supported many startups in Greece and abroad and since Jan 2016 he is fully involved with Venturefriends.vc a Venture capital fund where he is an advisor. VentureFriends has invested in 20 startups 16 of which have operations in Greece

 

Bezantakou Danae

Managing Director at Navigator Shipping Consultants

Danae Bezantakou is Managing Director of Navigator Shipping Consultants LTD. , shareholder of KEFI S.A. (Travel Agency) and MATILDA HOTEL in Zakynthos Island. She is also President of iforU-Greek Mentoring Network, which empowers women’s entrepreneurship through mentoring, a founding partner of the business think tank THE CANVAS and President of the 1st Hellenic U.S. Alumni of State Department. The 1st Young Executives Shipping (YES) Forum was organized under her initiative during International Shipping Exhibition Posidonia 2016. She is also a member of the Advisory Board of Blue Growth. Danae represented Greece in International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) “Women in Leadership” organized by Hilary Clinton (March 2011), has been selected to be one of the European Young Leaders (2014) and her name was included in the "Purpose Economy Europe 100 List 2014", as well as in the 40under40 list of Fortune Greece. Chrysanthos Panas

Chrysanthos Panas was born and raised in Athens. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the American College of Greece.

He is named lecturer at the Master’s degree program ‘‘Tourism and Hospitality’’ of University of Piraeus. 

He is the founder and owner of Panas Sophisticated Hospitality (www.panasgroup.gr), which for over 25 years is setting the trend, as well as the style of entertainment and hospitality on the recreational scene. The Panas Sophisticated Hospitality,  has ownership and management of the "Island Club and Restaurant", the private members club "Salon de Bricolage", and "Island Art & Taste", which is compiled of 5 uniquely decorated event and conference facilities. In 2015, in collaboration with Piraeus Bank, Panas Sophisticated Hospitality has expanded its business by undertaking the management of City Bistro and Bar de theatre as well as the historic Zonars. The outcome of this collaboration was characterized as exceptionally successful and the whole atrium has been a point of reference in the domestic and foreign press, who consequently named it as the new cultural neighborhood of Athens.

Coutarelli Marina Lyda

Dr. Marina – Lyda Coutarelli is the founder and President of the Organizer of the Spetses mini Marathon and Spetsathlon athletic events.  Both events have attracted over 100.000 people during a five year period to the picturesque island of Spetses in Greece yielding important economic and social benefits for both the island and Greece as an athletic destination.  Dr. Coutarelli and her team have been instrumental in creating a niche tourist product for the booming tourism industry in Greece- in the form of athletic tourism- which has seen an amazing growth record, amidst the political and economic turmoil the country is facing.  Moreover, in 2007 she founded her own communication company, “Communication Lab” which has won numerous International, European and Greek awards including two years in a row European Business Award sponsored by RSM in the category of “Entrepreneurship” and “Integrated Marketing Award” from the Greek Tourism Awards.  She has been honored by IPRA (International Association of Public Relations Professionals) as one of the 40 most important women in the world in the field of Public Relations and holds a magna-cum laude degree in Political Science and Communication from Brown University and a Ph.D in Communication Crisis Management from the University of Oxford.

Daifa Eirini

Daughter of the late Stavros A. Daifas, who for six decades dominated the Shipping Industry, she was born in Athens and studied Psychology and Sociology in Greece and Business Administration in Great Britain. She has worked for three years as a social worker at the “Foundation for Children with Autism” in Agia Paraskevi, Athens, at the “Reformatory for Female Juveniles” and at the “Women
 Section of Korydallos Prison”. She continued her professional course in the world of business, taking over the family’s Shipping company, “STAVROS DAIFAS MARITIME CORPORATION S.A.”, where she is still active today as C.E.O..
 In 2014 she was elected, and has been acting since, as “Deputy Mayor of Ministry of Culture” of the Municipality of Piraeus. In 2016 she was also elected President of the “Piraeus Marine Club”, being the first woman ever taking over this position. She also participates as an associate member or Board member in several Unions, Associations and Organizations with enviable social, charity and environmental activities, such as: Notable Secretary of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (HELMEPA), contributing member of the Association of Friends of Children with Cancer ELPIDA, Honorary member of the Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles MEDASSET, and many more. As she is particularly sensitive about matters pertaining to health, and feels great love for all vulnerable social groups, she has been awarded numerous times for her contribution by many Associations. Dramalioti-Taylor Maria

Maria Dramalioti-Taylor is a founding Managing Partner at Beacon Capital LLP, a London-based Venture Capital firm specialising in enterprise tech. Beacon emerged as one of the leading post-seed stage VCs after receiving the backing of the £85m London Mayor’s Co-Investment Fund.  The market cap of the firm’s portfolio of 25 investments, which include such household names in the B2B software as www.MoveGuides.com and www.azimo.com, grew 4x in 4 years to reach £200m.

Maria serves also as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence at INSEAD, was an adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurial Finance at Hult International Business School and is on the board of a number of businesses including the Athens-based Epignosis LLC. Previously, Maria was a partner at xMillion Capital, a Geneva-based family office, an entrepreneur and angel investor and a director at Ernst & Young and Andersen.

An advocate of engaging more women in technology, Maria set up Incito Ventures, a syndicate to invest in female-led tech startups and served on the board of the US women-focused accelerator www.Astia.org. Maria is a mentor for London-based accelerators and an invited speaker at events such as the MWC, the Tech World and Women 4 Technology. She supports charitable causes that help the economically disenfranchised young people such as The Prince's Trust Business programme and Greek young entrepreneurs such as Reload Greece.

Espinoza Felipe

Felipe Espinoza has worked in some of the leading hotels in Europe, North and South America and Asia Pacific Regions with proven international record of 25 years, with solid background in luxury hotel and resort operations, hotel acquisitions and asset management. Operations experience gained with Mandarin Oriental, The Peninsula Group and General Manager Positions with Orient Express Hotels, Rocco Forte Hotels and Grace Hotels; asset management experience gained working with private equity groups.

Recently he was responsible for new development and operations of the Americas Region of Grace Hotels, North America, Panama and Argentina, with base in New York City joining in February 2014.

He is sophisticated, well-traveled individual, a passionate hotelier of the “modern generation” in the industry. He has an immense passion for Italy, its life-style, culture and essence. Fafalios Charalampos J.

Born in 1961  Haralambos J. Fafalios comes from an old seafaring family from the island of Chios. Both his grandfathers
were seafarers and after studies in London and Newcastle he went to sea for three stints of duty. In the early 1980's he
joined a Shipbroking company and has acted as a Baltic Member for over 32 years culminating in the honour of being
elected a director  of the Baltic Exchange in 2006. In 2010 he was elected as Chairman of the Greek Shipping Co-operation
Committee and has served in that role ever since.
He has also served on various shipping industry and other boards and has championed the cause of Greece and its
maritime industry on the global stage.

Fotis N. Papathanasiou

Fotis has been the General Manager of Cultural Organizations with 28 years of overall experience in the cultural institutions sector both public and private (Vice-President Greek National Opera, Deputy Mayor of Athens for Culture and International Relations, Advisor to the French Minister of Culture Jack Lang etc.). He is active as founder, co-founder and Leader in Civil Society Cultural entities and NGOs for more than 23 years (e.g. Friends of National Opera, Wagner Society, Hellenic Culture Foundation, Filotis Association of Foundations). He has worked both in Greece and France and traveled to participate in or attend to cultural events in 15 European countries. Fotis has also created new institutions such as Cultural Centers (Athens Technopolis), Museums (Maria Calls Museum Athens), Festivals (Athens European Jazz Festival) or awards (Apollo Awards) and produced numerous TV & Radio Shows on Culture, Classical Music and Science. Has been also teaching Cultural Management in Panteion University and International Relations in Paris based École des Hautes Études Internationales. Gavalas Lakis

Fashion Designer

Lakis Gavalas started working at the age of 17  and he discovered his great love for fashion and accessories, a few years later traveled to Italy to make his dreams come true and actually stayed there for nine years. She studied dance and he managed to establish close relations with famous designers and celebrities. Returning to Greece represented the most well known designers and introduced them to the Greek public together with the unknown term  for the Greece of High Fashion. Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana and Dsquared were only some of the most famous collaborations. The years after, Lakis Gavalas created Lakis Gavalas and Burberry stores as well as his own brand .LAK which, until today, remains his signature. The most important Fashion Shows in Athens and Mykonos had the signature of Lakis Gavalas and  his eccentric personality is synonymous with Greek  Fashion and Lifestyle.

Gavos Thanasis

Journalist/UK Correspondent

Thanasis Gavos was born in Athens and has been living in London since 2001, when as a young journalist he started working for the Greek Section of the BBC World Service.

After leaving the BBC he has collaborated with a number of British TV, radio and print outlets and is currently working with Greek (SKAI), Cypriot (Cyprus News Agency, RIK) and international media (Independent Balkan News Agency) as a UK based correspondent.

He is also the director of the media production company Topology Media; among its projects the company has established a website (euGreeka.com) aiming to bring together Greeks, Cypriots and philhellenes in the UK and around the world.

Through his work Thanasis has given the opportunity to many young Greeks in the UK to publicise their work and achievements in various sectors of public life and has been following the progress of young Greek scientists, artists, professionals and everyday heroes well beyond the British border.

Over the last years he has also been involved in the organising of the London Greek Film Festival, where he has witnessed the creativity of young Greek filmmakers both in Greece and abroad emerging through the adversities facing them in times of austerity and intellectual sterility.

Grigoris Polychronidis

Grigoris Polychronidis is a Paralympic Champion in the sport of Boccia. He has participated in four Paralympic Games and had the honour to be the flag bearer of the Hellenic Paralympic Team in “Rio 2016” Paralympic Games. He has won a Gold Medal in “London 2012” Paralympic Games, a Silver medal and a Bronze medal in “Rio 2016” Paralympic Games and a Silver medal in “Beijing 2008” Paralympic Games. He has also won 16 medals in World and European official competitions during the 15 years he is in the national squad (2003-today). Due to his results, he was No 1 in the World Ranking List of his category in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. He is the Greek Boccia champion for sixteen consecutive years (2002-today).

Grigoris has a bachelor degree in Accounting and Finance (Athens University of Economics and Business) and is working for the Hellenic Court of Audit. Since 2004, Grigoris has been awarded with the Gold Medal of the Hellenic Parliament in 2008 and 2012 and the Silver Medal of the Hellenic Parliament in 2004. He has been nominated as an Honorary Citizen of the City of Athens and Awarded with the Medal of the City of Athens. He has also been awarded by the President of the Hellenic Republic, the Prime Minister, the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, the Undersecretary of Sports, the municipality of Athens and other cities and by a variety of organizations. GiIn 2012, Grigoris starred in the movie-documentary “My Way to Olympia”, which had its premiere in 2013 Berlinale movie festival and has been awarded as BCN Sports film 2014 and by EOP Festival 2013.

 

 

Hioureas Christina

Christina Hioureas is the Chair of the United Nations Practice Group at Foley Hoag LLP.  She represents States, private entities, and individuals on international disputes and public international law matters, including: international investment treaty arbitration (ICSID, UNCITRAL); international commercial arbitration (ICC, ICDR, Swiss Rules) and litigation; treaty drafting and interpretation; international human rights matters; Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act; law of the sea; and energy law and gas pricing disputes.  She also advises States before the United Nations and its bodies.  Hioureas has served as a delegate at the UN, handling the Sixth Committee to the General Assembly (Legal Affairs), UN Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and matters before the Security Council.  She is an elected Term Member at the Council of Foreign Relations and has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law.  She received her JD from the University of California Berkeley School of Law and her BA from UC Berkeley in Political Science and Peace & Conflict Studies.

Kavouni Angelica

Graduating from the medical school of Thessaloniki, Greece, I continued my studies in the UK at Bristol University Medical School, on a scholarship from the Erasmus European Institute.

I have started my surgical experience initially at a teaching hospital in Thessaloniki, Greece. I continued my training at a number of London's teaching hospitals. My training and my work involved head and neck cancer surgery, cleft lip and palate repair, microsurgery, as well as plastic surgery emergencies, especially hand and lower limb trauma and burns resuscitation. I have also worked on an MD thesis research project involving a novel use of growth hormone.

 I completed my training with a cosmetic plastic surgery fellowship at the Institute of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Stamford Hospital and I acquired a Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic surgery from Queen Mary College, University of London.

I have held a post of Locum consultant at Chelsea and Westminster hospital between September 2005 and March 2012. I have been since in private practice full time.

Keeping academically up to date in this ever-changing surgical speciality is challenging, so I attend courses and seminars regularly and I have published papers on plastic surgery topics.

My aim is to offer beauty enhancing and anti-ageing treatments, using both well-tested and new techniques and state of the art facilities. Safety, good clinical care and confidentiality are my priority, according to the guidelines for Good Surgical Practice and Cosmetic surgery.

I have admitting rights for cosmetic plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine procedures at the Weymouth Street Hospital and at 152 Harley street clinic.

Kozompoli Voula

The many times awarded President of the Hellenic Olympic Winners Association Voula Kozompoli, is among the top women water polo athletes in the world. She has played for the Greek Water polo National Team for 15 consecutive years. She has more than 350 official appearances and she was also Captain of the Greek National Team for many years. She competed in:

  • 2 Olympic Games,
  • 5 World Championships,
  • 7 European Championships
  • 7 Fina-Cup and World Leagues,

She won:

  • the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Athens 2004,
  • gold and bronze medal in World  Leagues in 2005 and 2007.

In December 2015 she was highly honored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) with the European “Women and Sports” trophy.

In 2016 she was appointed as a Marketing Commission Member of the IOC.

She is the creator and the project leader of the international   program and campaign "Make place for one more woman", whose main goal is the broadening of the women's participation in all structures and facets of sport.( participation, leadership, coaching).

In 2016 also, she has been elected for second time as the President of the Hellenic Olympic Winners Association (Olympians from 1st to 8th place in winter and summer Olympic Games).

She has a Master of Arts Degree in Public Management (University of Peloponnese), and a Bachelor Degree in Economics (University of Athens Business School) as well as an Executive Diploma in Sports Management.

Lanz Azcarate Cristina

A Chartered Member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Cristina gained her Architectural Degree at the Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de San Sebastián, her hometown, and moved to London to complete her academic training as well as to gain professional experience.

Cristina has worked on all sides of the architectural process which is why she puts great emphasis on relationships not only with clients but with each member of the Design and Construction Team. She believes that the secret to delivering a successful project is a committed team.

Thoroughly enjoying the anthropological side of the built environment, Cristina sees architecture as a tool to better the quality of life of others and being part of the industry as a responsibility full of potential. It is this potential that inspires her and helps her remain passionate about her work

Cristina has worked in senior positions since becoming an Associate for KMW/Stefan Zins in 2005 and after years dedicated to delivering large regeneration projects including the award winning Vermilion (Phase 1 of Canning Town's regeneration for English Cities Fund on behalf of CZWG Architects), in the Autumn of 2012, she co-founded atelier EURA.

After a year working in the Business Development side of the practice, she left CZWG in 2015 to focus on establishing her own studio. As well as doing so, for the first 18 months, she joined the senior team at a small high end residential developer in Hampstead to advise on Architectural matters.

Committed to supporting diversity in the industry, she does so from her positions as London and South East Chair for NAWIC, her advisory role at Architects for Change (the RIBA's Equality & Diversity Committee) and as a Mentor at the pan-professional mentoring programme: Fluid.

Lentzas George

Chief Data Scientist & Adjunct Associate Professor at Business

Dr. George A. Lentzas (Springfield Capital Management, Columbia Business School and NYU) is a statistics expert with a decade of experience in applying quantitative models in the real world. He has worked in various capacities at a number of leading financial institutions, including Morgan Stanley, BNP Paribas, Citigroup and Hutchin Hill Capital. He has also held faculty positions at both Columbia University and New York University, where he has taught courses in Machine Learning and Applied Statistics & Econometrics. His professional expertise includes the application of statistics, machine learning and artificial intelligence to finance and economics. He is currently the Chief Data Scientist and Manager of Springfield Capital Management, a NY based quantitative hedge fund, as well as an Adjunct Associate Professor at both New York University and Columbia Business School. He holds a PhD, MPhil and BA from Oxford University, an MPhil from Cambridge University and has been a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Economics, Harvard University. 

Madamopoulos Panagiotis

Panagiotis also serves as a Venture Partner at Big Pi, a

Malone Gloria

Gloria Malone is an award winning writer, speaker, activist, and consultant.
Gloria works centers the importance of reproductive justice, dignity and respect for non-traditional families, and establishing successful social media presence and campaigns.
In 2011 she created teenmomnyc.com to share her story of teenage pregnancy and parenting with other pregnant and parenting teens. Teenmomnyc.com provides information and resources to help pregnant and parenting teens thrive and create the future they want for themselves and their families, despite what society says. Since creation Teenmomnyc.com has organized two summits for pregnant and parenting teens in Orlando, FL and New York City in collaboration with several local and national non-profits.
She is a co-founder of the #NoTeenShame movement which received the Spirit of Service award from Healthy Teen Network in 2014.
A proud member of Echoing Ida she writes about the intersections of race, public policy, and lived experiences of Black women and girls.
In 2015 Gloria was a Co-Chair of the Young Women’s Advisory Council (YWAC). YWAC was in essential part of the country’s first ever Young Women’s Initiative (YWI) which was launched in New York City by the Speaker, Melissa Mark- Viverito. Together YWAC and YWI develop over one hundred policy, cultural, and programmatic recommendations for the City of New York to better understand how it could meet the needs of young women and girls of color. Her work with the Young Women’s Advisory Council earned her an award from the New York Women’s Foundation.
In 2016 Gloria received the Concordia Leadership Award for her work uplifting the importance of maternal health for teen parents.

Peppas Makis

Makis moved to the UK from Greece in 2001 to do his master degrees in Tourism Management at Cardiff Metropolitan University and in Human Resources Management at the Business School of Manchester Metropolitan University. With a bachelor degree in Sports and being a basketball player, He recognised the importance of Sports tourism and the impact that big sporting events such as the Olympic & Paralympic Games, the World Cup etc. can have on the tourism industry of the host city & nation. With the discipline of marketing being significant in travel, tourism and hospitality he attended a distance learning programme on Strategic Marketing from the University of Athens.

Makis worked at the Olympic Family Hotels for Athens 2004 and at the Sports Department of the London 2012 Organising Committees for the Olympic & Paralympic Games.


Soon after the end of Athens 2004 Games, Makis was appointed deputy director and then director of the Greek National Tourism Organisation in London responsible for the UK & Irish markets. As the UK market has been the biggest market for Greece when it comes to tourism and commerce extra attention was given to the creation of solid partnerships with the trade, media and stakeholders and the conference and events department of the office.

Makis continued his professional development as a lecturer of Hospitality & Tourism Management postgraduate course and student dissertation supervisor at the British Institute of Technology & E-commerce. He was also the representative of the first worldwide sport tourism conference & exhibition in Europe, which took place in Johannesburg, South Africa, during the 2010 World Cup.  

Makis has been a tourism & hospitality consultant after the London 2012 Games and he is involved with the development, promotional activities & communications of Greek tourism businesses in the UK. He is also involved with projects for the UK Construction Industry Council.

Sarris Ippokratis

Consultant in Gyneacology and Reproductive Medicine

Dr Ippokratis Sarris is a Consultant in Gynaecology and Reproductive Medicine. He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1999 and completed his medical degree at Magdalen College, Oxford. After becoming a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree from Oxford for his research work. He completed his general training in London and his subspecialty training in Newcastle leading to his dual accreditation with the General Medical Council as a specialist both in Reproductive Medicine as well as Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Sarris has a passion for teaching and academic work. He has published two post-graduate textbooks along with over 20 peer-reviewed articles and four book chapters, with further in press. In 2010 he was awarded the prestigious British Medical Association’s Book of the Year Award for Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He has tutored and lectured extensively both undergraduate medical students and trainee doctors.
Dr Sarris is an active member of numerous medical organisations. In the past he was elected on to the Executive Committee of the British Fertility Society and currently he is a member of their Training Subcommittee. He was also an elected member of the RCOG Subspecialty Committee.
Dr Sarris believes that medicine is a vocation and as such is active in charitable medical work, having undertaken various roles and projects.
He is currently the Lead Consultant for the London clinics of the fertility group CREATE, one of the largest providers of fertility treatment in the UK.

Triantogiannis Lena

Tsavliris Andreas

Principal of Tsavliris Group

Andreas Tsavliris was educated at Athens College (Alumni 1970).   In his career he has been engaged in all sectors of the shipping industry obtaining extensive experience.  
He held the prestigious position of President of the International Salvage Union from 2011 to 2013. He has been a member of the ISU Executive Committee since 2006. He is also member of the executive board of the Greek Shipping Co-operation Committee in London (GSCC) for over 30 years, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (F.I.C.S.), a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), an associate member of the Institute of Arbitrators (AIArb), a member of the Hellenic Centre in London, a member of the Propeller Club of London and the International Red Cross. Andreas is also a member of the World Presidents Organisation. He was an underwriting member of Lloyds for over 30 years.
He is a frequent keynote speaker at international maritime conferences and seminars.
In addition, Andreas established the shipping company “Almana Transport Ltd” which managed and operated a fleet of dry cargo vessels. He also founded the financial investment company “Marinvest” in Greece.
Since a very young age Mr Tsavliris has taken a great interest in a large variety of sports activities including Football, Tennis, Formula Racing, Skiing, Go-Karting, Paragliding, Rafting, Ice Skating, Horse riding, Deep Sea Diving (Dived down 120 meters to explore the 90 year old Britannic Ship laying in Greek waters). He also enjoys music and follows art.
To conclude Mr Tsavliris is a member of different important charity organisations which also make donations to Greece.

Valavani Lena

Professor

Dr. Valavani holds a B.S.in Physics, Barnard College and an M.S., M. Phil., and Ph. D. in Engineering and Applied Science from Yale University. After postdoctoral positions at Yale and MIT (LIDS), she joined MIT’s Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics where she was Boeing Associate Professor. She is the first and only Greek female faculty to date in MIT’s School of Engineering. She was also Senior Scientist, Systems Engineering, Volpe National Transportation Systems Center; founder and President of Hellenic Space Systems, S.A., to July 2012; Visiting Faculty, National Technical University of Athens and National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. In spring of 2010, she was Distinguished Visiting Faculty, Lund University. She is currently Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff, Draper Laboratory.
Her research interests include nonlinear, robust and adaptive control and optimization, stochastic estimation & system identification. Her current focus is in Autonomy, Machine Learning, Command and Control & Robust Navigation (GPS denied, A2/AD). She has over 100 publications, 4,000 citations and delivered over 60 invited lectures. She has supervised 27 Ph. D students and over 50 Master’s students.
Dr. Valavani served as Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions of Automatic Control, Automatica, AIAA Journal of Guidance Navigation and Control, and of the Int’l Journal on Robust & Nonlinear Control for a number of years. She also served on the Review Boards of AFOSR, ONR, NSF & NRC, National Academy of Sciences. Was elected to Board of Directors, AIAA, N. E., as General Secretary. Consulted for Draper, Lincoln Lab & Bell Helicopter. Served on the (AGARD) Systems Concepts Integration Panel (SCI /RTO) for over 10 years and is Associate Fellow, AIAA.

Varotsi Amalia

I was born and live in Athens. I graduated from Ionios School and studied Business Administration and Public Relations in Deree College and Didacta College. After my graduation I worked at my father’s legal office as a paralegal. Since 1985 I am married to Fragiskos Ragkousis, a criminal lawyer and since then I work at his office as the Financial Manager of it. We have 2 children, Lila, an LLM lawyer (SOAS and Kingston University) based and working in Greece and Themistoklis, an MSc Civil Engineer (Birmingham and Surrey University) based and working in Cambridge, UK.
From a young age I am very sensitive to issues of women and children’s rights and either individually or via Institutions and Organisations, in a national and an international status, as a member of them I am trying to promote these topics and raise awareness and also provide aid for minorities and people in need. Over the past 12 years I am an active member of the Soroptimist Union of Greece (http://www.soroptimist.gr/) part of the International Soroptimist Europe (http://www.soroptimisteurope.org/ )served as President of the Psichiko Club 2010-2012, Union Official 2012-2014, 1st Vice-President of the Union 2014-2016, President of the Union 2016-2018. I have participated to a number of National and International Conferences and International Meetings. Founded in 1921 in Oakland, California, Soroptimist International (SI) is a worldwide volunteer service organization for business and professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. Through their General (Category One) Consultative Status as a non-governmental organization at the United Nations, the organization seeks equality, peace, and international goodwill for women. Since 2005 I am also a member of the American Women Organisation of Greece (http://awogreece.org/about/) also a non-profit organization working on charity and fundraising for people in need in Greece. Founded in 1948, the American Women's Organization of Greece (AWOG) is a non-profit, volunteer women's group actively supporting charities in Greece.  Its 200-plus members are closely connected through their individual experiences as ex-pats in Greece and work together to connect with the Greek community by fund-raising and organizing educational and social events.  AWOG is also a member of FAWCO (Federation of American Women Clubs Overseas), a UN-accredited NGO with consultative status to the UN ECOSOC.

Zoulias Vasilis

Fashion Designer

Vassilis Zoulias has been involved in the fashion industry for more than 25 years. His career took off at a fairly young age, where he started working as a fashion editor in various publications such as Gynaika, Status, Votre Beaute and Greek Vogue.
In 2003, he ventured out on his own, creating a shoes and bags company under the label VASSILIS ZOULIAS OLD ATHENS. His first Prêt-a-Porter show took place in 2007 and since then, he designs two Prêt-a-Porter collections every year.
Since 2008, he maintains his personal Atelier of Haute Couture VASSILIS EMMANUEL ZOULIAS, where he also designs wedding dresses. In February 2012, he presented his first show in New York: "NEW LOOK NEW YORK".
